The Hyde Street Youth Band offers two youth oriented music ensembles in the traditional British 'brass band' style, these being the main band and the Training Band which was formed in November, 2001.
As an youth band affiliate of the Victorian Band's League (V.B.L.), our members can be no older than 18 years of age. Brass Bands have evolved over the last 150 years to use cornets & tenor horns instead of trumpets & french horns respectively. Other instrumentation incorporates the flugal horn, trombone, baritone horn, euphonium (tenor tuba), Eb & Bb tubas and percussion. Much more can be learnt about this interesting musical format by accessing the websites of either the V.B.L. or the Brass Band Webring on our 'HSYB Links' page.
The COMMITTEE :
Our band is administered by a voluntary body consisting mainly of parents of playing members. All Committee positions, including those of President, Secretary and Treasurer, are elected annually at the band's A.G.M.
The history of our band can be read on the
"HSYB History" link above.
